Intention for Ihram

Allahumma inni uridul-hajja (awil-'umrata) fa yassirhu li wa taqabbalhu minni

O Allah, I intend to perform Hajj (or 'Umrah); make it easy for me and accept it from me.

Said upon entering the state of Ihram before Hajj or 'Umrah, expressing the intention.

General principle of niyyah, — — Based on general Sunnah of intention

The Talbiyah

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed all praise, grace, and dominion belong to You. You have no partner.

Recited repeatedly from entering Ihram until the start of stoning Jamrat al-'Aqabah on the Day of Sacrifice.

Sahih al-Bukhari / Sahih Muslim, Bukhari No. 1549 — Ibn 'Umar (RA)

Dua for Entering Makkah

Allahumma hadha haramuka wa amnuk, fa harrimni 'alan-nar, wa amminni min 'adhabika yawma tab'athu 'ibadak

O Allah, this is Your sanctuary and place of safety, so forbid me from the Fire, and grant me safety from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.

Said upon entering the sacred city of Makkah.

Cited widely in classical Hajj manuals (e.g. Ibn Qudamah, Al-Mughni), — — Reported general supplication for entering the Haram

Dua Upon First Sight of the Ka'bah

Allahumma zid hadhal-bayta tashrifan wa ta'ziman wa takriman wa mahabah, wa zid man sharrafahu wa karramahu mimman hajjahu awi'tamarahu tashrifan wa takriman wa ta'ziman wa birra

O Allah, increase this House in honour, glory, dignity, and awe; and increase whoever honours and glorifies it — those who perform Hajj or 'Umrah to it — in honour, dignity, glory, and righteousness.

A well-known dua said upon the first sight of the Ka'bah, asking Allah to increase its honour.

Al-Bayhaqi, Shu'ab al-Iman, — — Reported from various Salaf; commonly cited though scholars note its chain is weak

Dua Between the Yamani Corner and the Black Stone

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Recited repeatedly during Tawaf, between the Yamani Corner and the Black Stone.

Sahih al-Bukhari / Sahih Muslim, Bukhari No. 1789 — Anas ibn Malik (RA)

Dua Upon Ascending Safa and Marwah

Innas-Safa wal-Marwata min sha'a'irillah, abda'u bima bada'allahu bih.

Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. I begin with what Allah began with. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is capable of all things.

Recited upon climbing Safa and Marwah at the start of Sa'i, facing the Ka'bah.

Sahih Muslim, No. 1218 — Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (RA)

Dua While Drinking Zamzam Water

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan wasi'an, wa shifa'an min kulli da'

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from every ailment.

The Prophet ﷺ said the water of Zamzam serves the purpose for which it is drunk, so it should be taken with a sincere intention/dua.

Sunan Ibn Majah, No. 3062 — Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (RA)

The Best Dua — Day of 'Arafah

There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is capable of all things.

The Prophet ﷺ said the best of all supplications is that of the Day of 'Arafah.

Sunan al-Tirmidhi, No. 3585 — 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather (RA)

Dhikr and Takbir at Mina

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil hamd

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.

The days at Mina (the days of Tashreeq) are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of Allah, primarily through the Takbir.

Sahih Muslim (on days of Tashreeq), No. 1141 (context) — Nubayshah al-Hudhali (RA)

Dhikr at Muzdalifah

La ilaha illallah, wallahu Akbar

There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.

The Prophet ﷺ stood at Al-Mash'ar al-Haram in Muzdalifah, facing the Qiblah, engaged in Takbir, Tahlil, and Tawhid until it grew light.

Sahih Muslim, No. 1218 — Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (RA)
