Dua of Istikharah (Seeking Guidance)
Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, wa astaqdiruka biqudratika, wa as'aluka min fadlikal 'azim...
O Allah, I seek Your guidance by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your immense bounty. You have power, I have none; You know, I do not; You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know this matter to be good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affairs, then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know it to be bad for me, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it.
How to perform it: pray two voluntary (nafl) rak'ahs with the sincere intention of seeking Allah's guidance on the matter, then recite this dua — by heart if you know it, or read it from the mus-haf/app if not. It's said whenever undecided about any permissible matter, big or small. There's no fixed sign or dream to wait for afterward; the guidance shows itself through what then becomes easy or difficult, so proceed with whichever choice you lean toward and trust Allah with the outcome.
